Timeless Design, Coastal Charm

Serenita began with the shared vision of Steve and Annette McCure, long-time Tweed Coast locals and owners of the home. Steve led the construction, while Annette shaped its aesthetic and atmosphere, guided by a natural intuition for interiors and the family’s everyday life.
For the McCures, Serenita was never about building another beachfront home. It was about creating something timeless and connected to its coastal setting, a home built with care, attention to detail, and patience, where architecture, materials, and lifestyle work together.
Architecture and Craftsmanship
Bringing that vision to life meant partnering with the right architect. Steve collaborated closely with Josh Jardine of Jardine Design Space, a Kingscliff local whose deep understanding of the Tweed Coast’s light, climate and lifestyle shaped the home’s design.
“The clients came to me with a clear affinity for Mediterranean architecture, the softness of form, the texture of masonry and a lifestyle centred around light, landscape and gathering. My role was to interpret and refine those ideas into a cohesive beachfront response that felt authentic to both the inspiration and the Casuarina setting. While the clients’ vision heavily guided the planning and architectural language, my personal imprint sits in how the home connects back to its foreshore setting, how it addresses the surf, captures breezes and embeds itself within the coastal rhythm I grew up experiencing firsthand. We worked closely through early planning and spatial layouts, many of which were guided by the clients’ own vision for daily living. From there, I translated that brief architecturally—balancing curved forms with clean coastal lines, ensuring the massing responded to the beachfront conditions, and grounding the palette so it didn’t feel themed but rather timeless and site-appropriate.”
Over a decade of European travel through Italy, Greece and Spain shaped the McCures’ approach to materials, light and gathering spaces. Natural stone imported from Greece, some pieces embedded with shell fossils, was sourced locally through Currumbin’s Stone Style and used throughout the home. A pair of 100-year-old hand-carved Turkish doors was placed in the Alfresco area to be enjoyed daily rather than reserved for arrival.
“Material selection was largely driven by Steve and Annette who had a very strong appreciation for natural, textural finishes,” Josh explains. “Where my role became critical was orchestrating these materials architecturally, deciding where stone would have impact, how travertine could blur indoor-outdoor thresholds, and where oak flooring would balance the masonry, all while performing practically in a beachfront environment.”
Known for always wearing his tool belt, Steve approached Serenita with a hands-on ethos. On site every day, he coordinated trades while also contributing directly to the build alongside trusted local plumbers, electricians, stonemasons, and carpenters. This collaboration shaped every detail, ensuring structure and finishes reflected care and intention.
“It’s really the combination of stonework and subtle curvature that defines the character of Serenita,” Josh says. “The staircase, ceiling volumes, and transitional spaces work together to create flow, light, and a sense of occasion throughout the house.”
Mediterranean Inspiration, Tweed Coast Life
Annette McCure’s influence is evident throughout. Working alongside Steve and Josh, she layered timber, stone and subtle finishes to soften the architecture and bring warmth. Many interior choices evolved during the build, guided by light, scale and everyday life, resulting in spaces that feel curated yet effortless.
Josh highlights the importance of indoor-outdoor flow:
“The clients placed enormous value on entertaining, family gatherings, and maximising the beachfront position, so the main living zones were aligned directly to the outdoor spine—pool, alfresco kitchen and terrace. This allows the home to open entirely when desired while still functioning efficiently day-to-day. Level transitions, material continuity, and ceiling extensions visually elongate spaces outward. At the same time, exposure is balanced with protection—shaded zones, wind buffering, and practical circulation paths back from the beach ensure comfort without compromising the connection to the oceanfront.”
A bougainvillea-draped pathway, lined with pencil pines, leads to sweeping stone walls and a welcoming entrance. Inside, timber floors, travertine tiling, and Basque stone feature walls echo Mediterranean warmth, while cavity-pocket glass doors open the main living areas to the east-facing Alfresco terrace and 10-metre pool—perfect for entertaining or quiet mornings by the coast.
The interiors are practical yet elegant, with a chef-grade kitchen, butler’s pantry, home cinema, fireplace, mudroom, study and four bedrooms, including a master suite with private balcony, exquisite ensuite, and designer walk-in robe.
A Connection to Place
Steve and Annette have lived on the Tweed Coast since the 1980s, long before Casuarina and Kings Forest existed. Their deep connection to the region informed every decision for Serenita, from its orientation to capture ocean breezes, to the thoughtful indoor-outdoor flow that makes the home feel part of the foreshore setting.
Industry insight from trusted local agencies, including the Witheriff Group, helped ensure the home fit seamlessly within the Tweed Coast market. Carol Witheriff calls it a masterclass in luxurious living:
“Serenita nails the perfect mix of architectural flair with practical living. You feel like you’re on holiday in Europe, yet every day family life flows effortlessly. The features that buyers love are the warmth and serenity you feel when you walk in, buyers often say ‘WOW.’”
Ocean glimpses, a sparkling pool, and a shaded Alfresco terrace maintain a constant connection to the coast, making each day feel calm and relaxed. For Steve and Annette, finishing a home is always a quiet moment of reflection. Once the gardens are planted and the last details complete, they can pause to appreciate all the care and effort that went into the build before turning their passion toward the next project.
Serenita stands as a reflection of that journey: a home shaped by vision, craftsmanship and a deep connection to its setting, where Mediterranean inspiration meets Australian coastal life in every thoughtful detail.
