Empire Revival Arrives
The Regent steps into a new era of style and creativity
The historic Regent Theatre in Murwillumbah has entered a new chapter with the launch of Empire Revival Murwillumbah. The doors opened mid-August, expanding the landmark Art Deco building’s role as home to M|Arts by welcoming Empire Revival and its collective of artisans, antique merchants, and innovators.
Empire Revival is a natural fit for the building and the town’s creative spirit. It brings together a collective of makers and entrepreneurs united by a shared passion for originality, craftsmanship, and history.
The concept already has a strong legacy. Its flagship centre in Paddington, Brisbane has been a marketplace for more than 40 years, constantly evolving to reflect changing tastes while maintaining a deep respect for heritage. More recently, The Emporium Kalbar, launched in 2022, has become a popular country road-trip destination for those seeking unique finds and authentic experiences.
Now, Murwillumbah has its own place in the Empire story. The new site offers an eclectic mix of local and visiting merchants, with sustainability as a central focus. From antiques and collectables to handmade goods and design pieces, the centre aims to celebrate creativity in all its forms while giving shoppers a memorable experience in the heart of town.
Owner and Director Olivia Hasova says the decision to expand into Murwillumbah was driven by the town’s energy and potential.
“M|Arts and the Murwillumbah community more generally have already been so welcoming and supportive. This town is on the precipice of such exciting things, and we are very lucky to be a part of it. I’ve picked up and moved my entire life down to Murwillumbah to run this project because I admire what the clever and creative locals are building here and believe in what Empire Revival has to offer the community.”
The Regent, once known for its cinematic and cultural history, now provides the backdrop to this new venture, blending heritage with modern creativity in a way that reflects Empire Revival’s philosophy.
With its mix of tradition and innovation, Empire Revival Murwillumbah adds another layer to the town’s evolving cultural landscape. For locals and visitors, it offers not
just a place to shop but a chance to explore, connect, and be inspired by a community of makers shaping Murwillumbah’s future.
